Martyn Forde began swimming for his health at the tender age of four and eventually blossomed into a competitive swimmer. His ability later saw him representing Barbados at the Olympic Games. An asthmatic, his doctor recommended that he try swimming to improve his lung capacity and health.

He has gone on to represent Barbados at the CARIFTA Games, Caribbean Island Swimming Championships (CISC) and now at the Olympics.

Forde swims for the Varsity Blues of the University of Toronto and is a varsity record holder in the 50m and 100m short-course events there. His consistently excellent performances for the university have earned him the prestigious '2008 First Team All Canadian' status.
