Bahamian Leevan Sands wins Bronze Medal Bahamian Leevan Sands wins Bronze Medal

The Bahamas today, through Leevan Sands won their first medal for at the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games. Sands won a Bronze medal in the Triple Jump clearing a distance of 17.59 meters, a personal best and new national record. The event was won by Nelson Évora of Portugal. Sands will now add this Olympic medal, to Bronze medals won at the 2003 World Championships in Paris and 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

In the 400M for men, Chris Brown of the Bahamas just failed to medal when a desperate dive carried the American David Neville ahead by a whisker. The race was won my LaShawn Merritt of the USA

Earlier in the evening the 200 M for women, featuring five Caribbean athletes, was won by Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica in a personal best time of 21.74 while her team-mate, Kerron Stewart won her second medal of the games, a Bronze, in a time of 22.00.
