Jamaica women win 4x400m bronze Jamaica women win 4x400m bronze

BEIJING - Jamaica women’s mile relay team won bronze on Saturday’s penultimate day at the Olympic Games.

Jamaica’s quartet of Shericka Williams, the 400m silver medalist, Shereefa Lloyd, national champion Rosemarie White and Novlene, could not match the mighty United States.

Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards of the United States would not be denied leaving Beijing without a gold, running huge legs to help the American women win the 4x400 relay.

The U.S. women ran in a time of three minutes, 18.54 seconds for gold. Russia claimed silver in 3:18.82, with Jamaica winning bronze in 3:20.40.

In the men’s event, Jamaica with Michael Blackwood, Ricardo Chambers, Sanjay Ayre and Lanceford Spence, closed the gate in 3:01.45 seconds. United States won the event in 2:55.39, a new Olympic record, ahead of Bahamas 2:58.03 and Russia 2:58.06.
