Women advance in 800m, 100m »

All Jamaican women advanced to the next round of competition in the 100m and 800m following the running of the heats in these events this morning at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser advanced to the quarterfinals by placing second in the first heat in a time of 11.41.

Kerron Stewart who ran in the second heat won in a time of 11.31.

Veronica Campbell-Brown won her heat in 11.34, while Semoy Hackett of Trinidad also advanced placing third in  the said heat while and Sheniqua Ferguson of the Bahamas finished fourth. 

Aleen Bailey won her heat in 11.29 while Trinidadian Ayana Hutchinson finished just outside the top three, who automatically qualify and placed fourth in the same heat in 11.54. Also advancing from the Caribbean are Kelly-Ann Baptiste from Trinidad and Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas.

Virgil Hodge of St. Kitts and Nevis also advanced placing second in heat three in 11.47. Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas also advanced in a time of 11.26.

Earlier in the day Kenia Sinclair advanced to the 800m semi-finals on Monday by placing third in her heat in a time of 2:04.52. Marian Burnett of Guyana also advanced to the semi-finals.
