JAAA could announce MVP athletes fate tomorrow »
The Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association is expected to announce at a Press Conference tomorrow morning if it will sanction the six MVP athletes who missed the mandatory pre-World Championship training camp in Nuremburg, Germany between August 6 and 11. The athletes who could face sanction for missing the camps are former 100-metre world-record holder Asafa Powell, Beijing Olympic 100-metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser, Beijing Olympic World 400-metre hurdles champion Melaine Walker, hurdler Brigitte Foster-Hylton, sprinter Shericka Williams and Kaliese Spencer. All six athletes were pulled from the World Championship team but were restored after Lamine Diack, the president of the International Association of Athletics Federations intervened on their behalf. The issue with double Olympic 200-metre champion Veronica Campbell-Brown, who withdrew from the women’s 4 by 100-metre relay team, is expected to be dealt with. Campbell-Brown said she withdrew from the relay team after she was given a choice to run the first or third legs an hour and a half before the final. She said she had practiced to run only the anchor leg during the mandatory training camp.
