Brigitte Foster-Hylton wins Courtney Walsh Award »

Berlin World Championship 100-metre hurdles gold medallist Brigitte Foster-Hylton is the winner of the 2009 Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence. The announcement was made on Wednesday night at the award ceremony, which took place at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. For winning the award, the 34-year-old Foster-Hylton was presented with a crystal trophy by Prime Minister Bruce Golding along with $500,000. She was one of four persons short-listed for the award. Cricketer Gareth Breese and footballers Donovan Ricketts and Fabian Davis were also nominated for the prestigious award. Foster-Hylton was the fifth recipient of the award following cricketer James Adams in 2005, Olympic 400-metre hurdles gold medallist Deon Hemmings-McCatty in 2006, netballer Elaine Davis in 2007 and cricketer Nehemiah Perry in 2008. The award was established in 2005 by former Prime Minister PJ Patterson and supported by the National Council on Sports in collaboration with the CHASE Fund to formally recognize the achievements of former Jamaica and West Indies cricketer Courtney Walsh.
